Outdoor fiberglass sculpture model production plan
Material selection
Using fiberglass as the core material, it combines high strength, corrosion resistance, and plasticity; Paired with gypsum for mold making, release agent ensures smooth demolding, epoxy resin achieves adhesive reinforcement, and weather resistant coating enhances outdoor durability.
manufacturing process
1. Mold making (core foundation)
Block design: Based on the complexity of the sculpture shape, the whole is divided into several small modules (such as the head, torso, and limbs of the character) to ensure the accuracy of subsequent splicing.
Masterpiece production: Use gypsum or wooden materials to make the master mold, which requires precise reproduction of sculpture details (such as facial contours, clothing wrinkles).
Negative mold flipping: Apply release agent evenly on the surface of the mother mold, then pour the negative mold with gypsum slurry. After the gypsum solidifies, demold to form a reusable negative mold.
2. Fiberglass Forming
Material preparation: Cut the glass fiber cloth into the size suitable for the module, and mix the epoxy resin in proportion (strict control of curing time is required).
Layered pouring: Immerse glass fiber cloth into epoxy resin, layer by layer adhere to the inner wall of the negative mold, and after each layer is cured, pour the next layer to ensure uniform thickness (generally 3-5mm, ensuring strength).
Curing and curing: After molding, place it in a ventilated area for natural curing, avoiding collision or heavy pressure during the process, and demold it after complete curing.
3. Module splicing and reinforcement
Adhesive treatment: The module joints are bonded with epoxy resin, and the surface needs to be polished and cleaned of oil stains before bonding to ensure a firm bond.
Structural reinforcement: bonding reinforcement ribs to areas with high stress (such as sculpture support points and joints) to enhance overall stability.
4. Fine processing
Polishing and shaping: Use sandpaper to polish the surface from coarse to fine, remove burrs, smooth seams, and restore sculptural details (such as hair and clothing lines).
Detail completion: For missing decorative parts (such as accessories, small components), use fiberglass or resin to make them separately, and then bond them to the main body.
Post processing and coloring
1. Surface treatment
Cleaning and degreasing: Use solvents such as methanol and acetone to clean surface oil stains and improve coating adhesion.
Scraping putty: Use putty mixed with gypsum powder and spray paint to level the surface, and then sand it smooth with sandpaper.
2. Coating process
Primer spraying: Dry at 50-60 ℃ for 10-20 minutes, evenly polish the primer with 400-500 grit sandpaper, and then wipe with diluent to remove dirt.
Topcoat spraying: Choose weather resistant coatings (such as acrylic varnish) and dry at 50-60 ℃ for 10-20 minutes to ensure a smooth and UV resistant coating.
Special effect: If texture is desired, it can be mixed with matte paint and pigment spraying; Or apply foam wallpaper before spraying to enrich the visual hierarchy.
Restoration degree control
By comparing historical photos/original works, focus on restoring the core features of the sculpture:
Outline design (such as character posture, architectural structure);
Detail textures (such as facial expressions, clothing wrinkles);
Color style (such as the vintage feel of historical sculptures and the color tension of modern sculptures).
The aging effect refers to the wear and tear of real scenes, with a focus on natural weathering at the edges and stressed areas, achieving a 90% restoration degree.
Production experience
Outdoor fiberglass sculptures need to balance process accuracy and weather resistance:
In terms of craftsmanship, mold making and layered pouring require repeated debugging to ensure details and strength;
In terms of materials, the combination of fiberglass, epoxy resin, and weather resistant coating should ensure long-term display effect;
In terms of coloring, the primer, topcoat, and aging process need to be repeatedly tested to ensure long-lasting color and texture.
The above plan presents the complete production logic of outdoor fiberglass sculpture models from design to display through systematic material selection, process flow, and post-processing, helping to achieve a display effect with a 90% restoration degree.
