Case study of sand table model production

In modern urban planning, real estate sales, and exhibition displays, sand table models have become an important visual communication tool. Through a detailed sand table model, elements such as architectural communities, topography, and surrounding environment can be visually displayed, helping viewers better understand the overall layout and detailed design of the project. Today, we will explore several successful sand table model making cases and reveal the creative and technological implementation behind them.

Case 1: Sand table model of urban complex

In this case, the designer needs to present an urban complex project that includes a commercial center, office buildings, and residential areas. Due to the numerous functional areas involved, different colors and materials were used to distinguish each functional block in the sand table model during production. By utilizing LED lighting technology, the nighttime lighting effect has also been simulated, enhancing the realism of the model. In addition, the model also incorporates dynamic elements such as movable traffic and pedestrian signs, vividly showcasing the vitality of future cities.

Case 2: Sand table model of mountain resort

This case demonstrates a resort project located in a valley. The sand table model not only needs to accurately reflect the complex terrain and landforms, but also needs to demonstrate the harmonious coexistence of various facilities and natural environment within the resort. In order to achieve this, the production team used various natural materials such as simulated plants, water patterned glass, etc., and combined fine carving techniques to depict the terrain. At the same time, a multi-level layout design technique was employed, allowing viewers to observe the architectural and environmental details in the model from different angles.

Case 3: Sand table model of historical district revitalization project

The goal of this case is to showcase a conservation and revitalization plan for a historic district. During the production process, the designer paid special attention to preserving the continuity of the original historical context, thus accurately restoring the appearance and structural features of the historical building in the model. The sand table model incorporates movable historical figure figurines, and through clever layout design, tells the development story of the historical district from the past to the present. This design not only endows the model with profound cultural heritage, but also enhances its educational significance and aesthetic value.

Case 4: Sand table model of high-tech industrial park

In this case, the sand table model is used to showcase a modern industrial park that integrates technology research and development, enterprise incubation, and business services. This model emphasizes interactive experience, and through the integration of multimedia display technology, visitors can query detailed information within the park through touch screens. In the production of the model, transparent acrylic material was used to represent the building, combined with the lighting effect at the bottom, creating a futuristic visual experience.

As a three-dimensional display method, the sand table model can concretize abstract planning schemes and present them more intuitively to the audience. Whether it's urban complexes, mountain resorts, historic districts, or high-tech industrial parks, these production cases all demonstrate the important role of sand table models in conveying project information and enhancing interactive experiences. Through the combination of exquisite craftsmanship and modern technology, the sand table model not only becomes a microcosm of the project, but also a product of the perfect integration of art and technology. In the future, with the continuous advancement of technology and the emergence of innovative thinking, we have reason to believe that sand table models will appear in more diverse forms in various display occasions.
