In planetarium exhibitions, classical science museums, vintage maritime-themed displays, high-end corporate gift shops, and study decoration setups, the brass armillary sphere astrolabe model serves as the core carrier for conveying ancient astronomy, maritime exploration, and classical scientific imagery. We have customized this armillary sphere astrolabe display model for our astronomy culture clients, with over 90% structural authenticity and antique bronze finishing, fully replicating the layered bronze rings, starry graduation dial, blue pointer, rosewood base, and transparent dust cover. It helps clients build an immersive classical astronomy atmosphere in exhibitions, corporate gifts, and study decor.
The client's needs focus on planetarium display and high-end gift scenarios. The model must accurately reproduce the overall proportions of the armillary sphere, the classical texture of the multi-layered brass rings, while matching the starry graduation dial, blue pointer, rosewood base, and transparent dust cover. It must be suitable for long-term display and gift placement, balancing classical scientific instrument texture with overall structural stability. We first broke down the armillary sphere reference images and classical astronomy materials provided by the client, dividing the model into core modules: multi-layer bronze meridian rings, equatorial graduation dial, blue pointer, central axis, rosewood base, and transparent dust cover — defining the scale and display emphasis for each module.
Material selection: Considering display requirements and structural stability, we used fine-grained brass sheet for the multi-layer rings; precision materials were used for fine parts such as the graduation dial, pointer, and axis to control overall weight. Colors including brass gold, deep starry blue, and rosewood brown were pre-mixed, with an aged patina effect reserved for subsequent multi-layer painting.
Module splitting & basic forming. We used a modular approach, processing each component independently: the multi-layer bronze rings were cut, shaped, and sanded to replicate the nested structure of meridian and equatorial rings, with graduation marks and rivets engraved on the rings to present the refined elegance of classical astronomical instruments; the starry graduation dial was separately made with a deep blue surface, white star dots, and scale numbers; the blue pointer and central axis were separately fabricated; the rosewood base was independently produced as a solid square wooden base with brass support posts.
Precision assembly & structural calibration. We first aligned the rosewood base with the brass support posts using positioning fixtures to ensure the instrument sits perfectly level. We then installed the central axis, equatorial dial, multi-layer meridian rings, and blue pointer sequentially. After each module was completed, we checked alignment to ensure concentric nesting of rings and smooth rotation of the pointer. For the ring assembly, we followed a step-by-step process: first securing the central axis, then mounting each meridian ring with appropriate clearance between layers. Key reinforcement was applied at ring joints, the pointer axis, and base support posts to prevent loosening during display.
Surface treatment & painting. After all components were assembled, we carefully sanded the brass rings to remove seams and burrs, achieving a warm, uniform bronze surface. Layered painting and aging were then applied:
Bronze rings: Brass gold metallic finish with subtle verdigris and worn highlights.
Graduation dial: Deep blue starry texture surface with white stars and scale marks.
Pointer: Deep blue metallic finish with brass gold central axis.
Rosewood base: Dark brown wood-wax finish with brass gold support posts.
Transparent dust cover: Clear acrylic enclosure.
For planetarium display and high-end gifting, the model is fully mounted on a solid rosewood base with a transparent acrylic dust cover. The base edge can be engraved with the instrument name, astronomy theme, and bilingual Chinese-English nameplate. Before delivery, the model is wiped clean; fine parts such as the pointer and rings are individually shock-packaged, with outer pearl cotton + wooden crate protection, ensuring the client can display it directly upon opening. We support customization of scale, bronze finish, graduation style, and nameplate text. Welcome to provide astronomical instrument reference images for an exclusive quote and design preview.
