Case Study of Military Fighter Model Production: From Drawing to 90% Restoration of the 'Air Combat Blade'
1、 Material selection: Accurately matching military texture
To make military fighter jet models, materials need to balance strength, texture, and fidelity. The main body is made of high-strength foam plate, which is light and easy to shape; Lightweight hard plastic panels are selected for large components such as wings and tail fins to ensure structural stability; The landing gear, intake duct and other detailed components are made of metal alloys (such as aluminum and titanium alloys) to simulate the metallic texture and precision craftsmanship of real fighter jets.
2、 Production process: Step by step restoration of military details
Main body splicing:
First, cut the foam board into the fuselage, wing, tail and other basic parts, and glue them with environmental glue. To ensure structural strength, critical joints are reinforced with fiberglass cloth and resin adhesive, dried and polished flat.
Detail shaping:
Landing gear: Metal alloy components are polished by a lathe to restore the metallic luster and mechanical texture of a real fighter jet;
Inlet: After cutting the plastic board, the edges are polished layer by layer with sandpaper to simulate the streamline and fine craftsmanship of a real inlet;
Weapon system: Components such as missiles and aircraft guns are hand carved with resin materials and then sprayed with metallic paint to restore the cold and rugged texture of military equipment.
Skeleton reinforcement:
To prevent deformation of the model, carbon fiber rods are used internally to build an "invisible skeleton", which is both lightweight and sturdy, allowing the model to maintain its shape during display.
3、 Post processing: Bring the model to life
Primer polishing:
Spray gray primer all over the body, and after drying, use 400 grit sandpaper to polish, then use 600 grit sandpaper for secondary polishing to make the surface smooth as a mirror, preparing for coloring.
Coloring process:
Basic color: Spray the body with matte gray to simulate the low-key texture of military fighter jets;
Identification details: The national flag, military emblem, number, etc. are hand-painted in red, yellow, and black paint, with delicate strokes resembling real painting;
Decorative elements: shark head, wing number and other distinctive markings, combined with spray painting and hand drawing, accurately restore the cultural symbols of military painting.
Texture improvement:
Spray transparent varnish all over the body to increase glossiness and protection; Then use an oil-based pen to do "aging treatment" on the edges of the wings and fuselage, simulating the usage traces of real fighter jets, making the model more dated.
